Brahma Muhurat
The two muhurats before sunrise — the sattva-rich pre-dawn window when the mind is naturally still and sadhana bears the deepest fruit.
Step by step
- 1Set your city so sunrise is accurate.
- 2Read tomorrow's Brahma muhurat start and end.
- 3Set an alarm the night before.
- 4Wake, bathe, and begin your sadhana.
Why devotees love this
- Backed by centuries of yogic practice.
- Aligns with the body's cortisol peak — natural alertness.
- Reserved sattva guna in the atmosphere.
- Best window for jaap, meditation and study.
When people use Brahma Muhurat
- 1Daily meditation and pranayama.
- 2Sanskrit or shastra study.
- 3Mantra jaap — one mala in Brahma muhurat = ten by day, says tradition.
- 4Journaling and sankalp.
Avoid these
- Confusing Brahma muhurat with sunrise — it ends before sunrise.
- Skipping it because 'I'm not spiritual' — the neurological benefits apply to anyone.
- Eating heavy food the night before and losing the window to grogginess.
How Brahma muhurat is computed
Night (sunset → sunrise) is divided into 15 muhurats of 48 min each. The 14th and 15th muhurats (roughly 96 min to 48 min before sunrise) form Brahma muhurat. Some traditions cite only the 14th.
